Summer is here and “Boo” is home. For us that means road trips to small towns looking for thrifting honeyholes and tackle shops. And I can't forget exploring local grocery stores and restaurants along the way. We prefer staying at local short term rental properties that speak to the culture and character of the town.
I am a planner by nature--I see that as a gift {some may disagree}. I don’t need to have a schedule for every minute of the day but I do like a good road map. Check out my tips for planning your next road trip.
Top 5 tips for your next road trip
Did I mention I’m a planner? I just love a good plan and that’s why I love TripIt. Think of it as a “hub” for all your travel plans. Tripit is your free itinerary, place to store documents and so much more. It makes me feel fancy and put together...two things I am not most days!
Y’all in case you didn’t know gas and snacks are expensive! And I love some snacks and well gas is kind of a necessity for a road trip. I use the free Upside app to save some money. It’s super easy. Open the app, claim an offer near you, shop as usual, pay with a credit or debit card and earn cash back. If I can do this you can too! Use my code Janet27978 to get an extra .15/gallon bonus on your first purchase!
Road trips are a great way to get to know someone. In fact, Boo and I have spent a lot of time in the car. Our first “official” date was to Pierre Part, LA to pick up a fishing pole. We stopped at a Templet’s Grocery Store to check out their selection of fresh meat {let me say the store was packed!} and we stopped at the Pierre Part Store so I could get some plants. Be still my heart, if this isn’t the best date in your 50's I don’t know what is. Having fun questions to ask is a lighthearted way to get to know someone. Try these 101 random road trip questions and see what you learn.
After all those questions you may want a little quiet time. Have a playlist or podcast ready. Let’s face it Boo will get tired of you talking about all your fabulous reel ideas {ok, maybe this is just me}. Plus music and podcast can also lead to interesting conversation.
Most importantly enjoy the journey. It can be as much fun as the destination. Even as a planner I love a spontaneous detour if we see something that looks interesting {especially a restaurant}. Road trips can be like life...we get so caught up in the destination we forget to enjoy the journey. Don’t do that. Relax. Laugh. Enjoy.
Here's a little lagniappe {French for something extra} and a clue to our destination. My FAVORITE short term rental property of all time is The Villas at Spanish Court.
